Stitch Your Polish!  0

Hello! It’s another fantastic Spring day filled with lawn clippings, pollen and sneezes. It’s a bit gloomy but it’s not raining yet, so I’m happy about that.

You all know I’m a huge nerd. I love Sci-Fi, fantasy, and a plethora of other nerdy things. What you might not know is that I also have a very girlie side (and a rather butch side but I’m sure we will get to that some other post), and I Love to paint my nails. I do a lot of work with my hands so they don’t tend to stay nice very long. If you have the same issue I have the perfect thing for you! It’s called Gelous You use it as a base coat and as two topcoats (sealing the tips on a topcoat). I did my nails last weekend and although I have beat the crap out of them this week they look like a day of wear with good quality base and top coats. It’s magic I say! I tell everyone who shows a slight interest in nail polish, and no I’m not getting paid for it.

With my obsession in mind I made a hand full of patterns of Nail Polish! Shocking I know. These charts can be great to use up some small leftover skeins, and show your love for paint fumes and pretty fingers. These would probably be great presents for the right teenager or manicurist in your life.

I have singled out each size bottle so you can throw it on a sweater or scarf or what have you. I have them in knit blocks and square blocks (DMC). I left the backgrounds on the pillow charts empty, so you can fill in a color that fits your decor. Also I have “Polish” marked generically so you can pick multiple or single colors, or make them all the same. Mix it up, use up those extras!

Let me know how you polish things up!

Melinda Freakin May!  0

It has been almost a month since I made a post, seems like forever. Life got a little hectic and then I went home to visit my family for Easter. I have some new housemates, Boots Kittie, Leo Kittie, my new ball playing buddy Harry the dog, and their mom. My allergies and throwing arm have gotten quite a workout. (Harry isn’t very bright but he’s fun and pretty adorable)

Butters Kittie is adjusting but Whiskers Kittie is not a fan of the new company. He pretty much hates everyone though.

If you are at all into the comic book genre, or action, you should really check out Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. One of my favorite ladies Ming-Na Wen, is on it and plays the bad ass Melinda “The Calvary” May. I love me some good hand to hand combat and she sure brings it!

So today I have a Melinda May pattern for you, “pillow sized” as per my norm. I have a square block and a knit block chart. Color and B&W, so you can mix up the colors however you like.

Don’t worry, I have some charts in the works so you won’t have to wait long for more nerdy charts! Please don’t forget to catch me on tumblr, or tweet me, or comments, to let me know who you would like to stitch, or just to say hi!

Doh!  0

In my family Scrabble is a contact sport. If a word is questioned everyone gets a separate Scrabble accepted dictionary to look it up, after the person proves they know the meaning and use of the word. It’s also the the same with birds at the feeder. Because of this I still play words with friends. In real life I can’t spell and always come out dead last, but in Words With Friends I have a computer and no onlookers so my vocabulary can be utilized more efficiently. I have an issue however, “doh” is not acceptable. It’s in the dictionary. I say we start a campaign.

The man who made this particular word famous was of course Homer Simpson. If you didn’t know that already you probably live under a rock.
I have a nice chart of the portly fellow for you today. One in color, and one just outline for you slightly less insane stitchers out there. Both in knit blocks.

Happy Spring/Warrior Food  0

Happy Spring! Sort of. The weather has been crap, still in the low 40’s with cold rain. It is making me feel like I’m 80, and like hibernating. Hopefully it starts to warm up a little bit this next week *crosses fingers*.

I have been a little behind making new posts lately, I have a feeling that it might happening for the next month or so. I have been stitching a few things, taking a little break from my secret project, and have been working on about 10 charts at the same time. I just keep on thinking of new things and can be a bit impulsive. I am still open to your requests, they just might take awhile. I also might procrastinate on something else by charting your idea right away, 50/50.

I have been working on changing things up a bit, so the chart I have today will be in the elongated knitting style instead of just regular squares, also adjusted so it is a bit more even when finished then when following the patterns I make with square, squares. I hope that makes sense because it’s late and I am pretty tired.

Today I have Dean Winchester’s favorite, and most likely only, food. He hates vegetables and calls these Bacon covered cholesterol shots “Warrior Food”. Some how he manages to still be buff, oh the magic of television. I have a knit chart for a pillow sized burger (5×6 stitches per inch), and a DMC colored cross stitch pattern as well. Switch up the background for whatever suits your fancy.

Don’t forget to let me know if you are working on one of my charts, I love feedback.

Let’s throw some money around  0

Have some leftover odds-n-ends of yarn sitting around? Why not make something fun out of them, like some coin bean bags to throw around? You can stuff them with cotton balls, scraps of fabric, or even dry corn if you are the tossing type. You can also throw some cat nip in there for your feline friends like I do.

I used the bean bag pattern without the outline, just for simplicity’s sake. The light heathery green was sitting around so I used it for the background. The yellow is some rug yarn I got from my mom ages ago. The white, orange and black are from part of my secret project . The yarns are different sizes and the stitches uneven, but I was just having fun with scraps. I did mine in Tunisian crochet knit stitch, so the stitches are more vertical than wide. The cats are gonna dig it.

Just stitch up a bean bag pattern, fold it over, stitch up the edges, stuff and stitch the rest. Simple, fun, nerdy. It’s the little things.

I also have small pillow patterns & single coins, so you can add in some intarsia on a project, or for a Perler bead, or bead weaving pattern. I left the backgrounds grey so you can use whatever color you want, you can always change colors if the ones I use don’t work for you. I even have a slightly fancier pillow pattern, which I have in the shorter squares that most knitting patterns come in. I felt like mixing things up a bit.

Not a cat and not really a dog  0

When I was in third grade I made a little green K-9, from Doctor Who, out of modeling clay for my Dad. I was in my late twenties when he hesitantly told me that K-9 was no more than a pile of clay and sticky dust. I think it was one of the most coveted presents I made him. I must say it was one of my favorites as well.

While I was sitting around being grumpy on anti-biotics, I decided to whip up a pattern of the metallic pup, so I can make another K-9 present for my dad….and you can make one for a beloved Whovian in your life.

I also decided to make some Totoro patterns for some reason. I think a late night Internet search might have inspired them. I had a huge love of Totoro in college.

All patterns are 50×50, pillow sized. If you make multiples you can also sew them together to make a blanket. No cross stitch colors this set, they are pretty basic so they wouldn’t be too hard to make with what you might have around.

Save, save often  0

Last night I was so excited, I only had one more Doctor to chart for my Doctor Who set of pillows. I was finishing up some of the details then….my phone went black. I was so focused that I totally ignored the fact that my phone was dying and I hadn’t saved any of my work. Back in my day we had to hand write reports, saving is not second nature. I was so bummed I just made some hot cocoa and watched Supernatural, and sulked a bit. Luckily I have something saved for just such an occasion (more on that later).

In my quest to make charts that are not just for Stargate, Doctor and Supernatural fans, I’ve been trying to think of other fandoms that get a less than stellar crafty review. I’m itching to make some Firefly charts, I just need to do some research. Such torture. Who doesn’t want a Malcolm Reynolds pillow anyway?

What fandom do you think is given the cold shoulder? Doctor Who was given the cold shoulder when I was a kid and no one got excited when I made a paper mâché Dalek in art class, mainly because I only knew three other people who knew what Doctor Who was. Let me know and I’ll see if I can help make your stitching dreams come true.

Back to my previously mentioned emergency backup chart. I have Teal’c for you, the ‘Went back in time to save SG1 so I have a cool grey patch in my hair’ Teal’c. He’s a lot more cuddly with hair I think. I have a pillow chart, with larger print version & DMC colors for you cross stitchers.

As always, please feel free to comment or sent me a tweet with any questions, comments, suggestions, or pictures of your creations. Enjoy!

Merry Yule & Impending Christmas!  0

Christmas is coming! I hope you are ready. It’s time for all those last second shoppers to go out & wreak havoc in the stores. Personally I finished wrapping up most of my presents today. I only have a few more to finish making & wrap. My title of World’s Coolest Aunt, is on the line. I managed to only purchase some small things, like for my brother lives on M&m’s. My holiday excitement starts on the 21st and ends on New Years, so it’s going to be a busy week of socializing with friends & family, and unfortunately driving.

I thought this week I would pull out a hand full of charts that I either had posted on my old blog, or have been floating around in my Dropbox far too long.

I hope you enjoy your holiday, or at least New Years!

What have you been making for the holidays?

This is a pattern I made shortly after acquiring my charting program. Kaboom!, was one of my favorite games to play on my uncle’s Atari, when I would visit my grandma. We always had Christmas Eve at her house with my mom’s side of the family. Grandma had her own cake shop & would make elaborate gingerbread houses every year. This time of year always reminds me of her, and oddly enough so does Kaboom!

This summer I spent some time helping take care of my other grandma, who has Alzheimer’s. She is in hospice care right now and this year we are going to have Christmas at her house for probably the last time. Always the bird watcher she has a great bird watching window, feeders always well supplied, where there are always cardinals hopping around. I made these patterns during my visit.

*sticks out tongue*  0

A few months ago the whole internet was all a buzz about some award show that Miley Cyrus was on. I had no idea she had another album or grew about two feet. I am not up on my pop culture.

I clicked on some link just to see what the hubbub was about. There was a guy wearing a beetle juice outfit and some oddly placed bears. This includes the one on Miley’s outfit. Personally this is not the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. I went to art school, after drawing naked homeless men at 7am you grow a thick skin.

My friend Rain has been an avid Miley supporter since the media got on her case about being lude. Personally I would have given her a C+ on her performance, it didn’t seem professional enough. She got the + for shocking the media, since it seems that’s what she meant to do. She could have done a better job at that as well. People need to calm down, it wasn’t that exciting. I’m not a fan of the tongue, but she’s been doing that her whole life. I’d rather think about hot cocoa, or Doctor Who.

So for my dear friend Rain and her positive backing of a kindred quirky kid (one that happens to be in the spot light), I bring you this Miley Cyrus pillow chart. I made a DMC cross stitch chart as well, maybe a simple mini pillow for your desk at work?

Peyton Manning, he’s a golfer right?  0

I just spent an unintentional weekend with the Weims. It has been some time since I left the house intending to be gone for a few hours, then ending up disappearing into movies, puppies, popcorn and lots of ice cream, for days. The old lady in me kept demanding “turn it down, it’s too loud”, so no worries about me reverting into a teenager.

You already know that I am a huge nerd. I also try my darnedest to ignore talk of football. I have lived in downtown Columbus for ages and pride myself on completely ignoring the Michigan game this year. I grew up in a football town (everything Browns or Red & Grey), my Grandfather was a football coach, everyone played football.

I am not a football fan.

There is one name I can’t stop hearing, mainly because Patrick Gilmore is in love with him, and that is Peyton Manning. I know he has a brother that is prettier than him, he plays football for the Broncos, and he has a goofy grin I find charming.

Since he keeps getting thrown around in my universe and lots of people seems to like the guy, I decided to make a Peyton Manning pillow pattern. I hope you still have time to whip one up for the Peyton Lover in your life, the holidays are approaching quickly. I also converted it to cross stitch in case you want a Peyton that is a little more portable.

*I added a simplified & line work pillow for those of you like me who aren’t big fans of weaving in lots of ends
