Night Vale Cross Stitch, Finally!  10

Hello Stitchers! I have some special charts for you today. I have been working on these Welcome to Night Vale cross stitch charts on and off for six months, and I have been dieing to share them. It was not till the other day that I realized it had been four months since I made a blog post! It has been a long and crazy four months: I re-injured my shoulder (don’t wrestle drunk bike messengers kids), my roommate is still pretty sick but is at the Mayo Clinic right now getting the “Dr. House” work up , and I got to scratch “Have dog with mohawk” scratched off my bucket list.
(Sir Murphy Loves it)

Thankfully things are starting to calm a bit and I can get back to charting nerdy things on a more frequent basis.

I have quite a few Night Vale charts for you today, and tried to make patterns for all level of stitcher. To save space I had to shrink some of the images, so hopefully you get a good idea of how they might look. I also added some technique info and “just marks” versions of most patterns for those of you who like to adjust colors, or just don’t like having the colors filled in. Most patterns are also multi-paged, to make them easier to ready without having to enlarge them from a single PDF page.

As always please contact me with any questions, comments, offerings of chocolate, broken links, pattern issues, pictures of puppies, or pics of your creations (my favorite).

Enjoy!

NIGHTVALEKN DMC PALLET

On many of the patterns I have the script “empty”, or as “background”. I have a very good reason for this, so I made up this sample of several ways to tackle lettering. You can use these techniques to personalize my patterns or to help you tackle letters surrounded by stitching on any patterns you create.

Back stitch samples

My favorite way for dealing with script on a solid stitched background is #1 and #7, back stitching around the “empty” background fabric.

I find #1 to be cleaner and easier to read than just stitching in the number flat, like #5, #10, and #(1)3.

#1 and #7 give greater depth, texture, and clarity than no back stitch on an empty background like in #(1)1 or the muddyness of cross and back stitching in the same color like #3, #8, and #1(3).

I also find that having back stitching in a color contrasting neighboring stitches like #1,#4,#6,#7,#9, or#(1)2, make the symbols much easier to read than having similar colors like #2,#8, or #11.

If you are using a large fabric or grid to work on, like monks cloth, the back stitching might not have as great a visual impact on any kind of script or numerals you might use, so these samples might not hold as much weight for you. As always, make some samples first to see if your thread count or back stitching technique need adjusting.

Bowie  18

Hello Stitchers!

I know you haven’t heard from me since November, things at the house have been kinda crazy since my roommate has been in and out of various hospitals due to her autoimmune encephalitis. Just yesterday she got in a wreck while on the way to the ER, luckily she only had a little extra stress from the adrenaline, she and the driver were both fine. People come from all over the world to wreck their vehicles in Columbus, it’s crazy during inclement weather. We just had our first real snow fall this past week and people are just wrecking left and right. The snow sure is pretty though.

I lost my phone at a 7-11 on the way back from Christmas with my family. I do all my charts on my phone, so I borrowed my roommate’s iPad to whip These up. I should be getting an old phone from a friend this week and can not wait.

In 1999 I bought my first stereo. It cost me $20 and was a Frankenstine machine built from the rag tag parts from future owner’s deceased parent’s stereos. The best part was that it had an 8 track and those things were in every thrift store & cheap. The two I listened to the most, while pulling all weekers, were both David Bowie, Space Oddity and Young Americans (I got the images from eBay).
8Tracks
I was sad when the old worn out tapes broke, and I did replace them once or twice before I could afford a fancy new stereo with a CD player *ooooooh*.

When I heard Bowie had passed I jumped to my first line of mourning, I had to chart him. So today I have a few knit charts and a cross stitch patter based on the Aladdin Sane cover art.

I decided tried something new for the knit charts this time around, I used only Red Heart Classic Colors. I know it can be hard to finding the right colors to go with color work charts. I went with Red Heart because everyone can afford it, is easy to find, and it is acrylic for us poor souls with wool allergies.

Feel free to send me any of your finished projects, contact me about any questions or comments, and stay warm out there.

Enjoy!

Link and My Hiatus  2

Hello Stichers! Sorry my posting hiatus lasted a few months longer than I expected. First I injured my foot pretty badly, then I moved in with a friend of mine because she was sick and Dr. House was not available, and then we had to get roommates because Cobra insurance is insane. Then last yesterday we finally got a diagnosis: Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis, the same rare disease I spent all last summer working on an educational campaign for because another friend of mine contracted it. I almost feel cursed, but I am glad that I could have potentially saved the life of a great friend.

Today I bring you some charts from Zelda, but you don’t have to be a sword wielding elf to save the day. I used the names I called the characters back in the day, when we had to blow into that shiny gold cartridge every time we played. There are knit/crochet charts as well as cross stitch charts, so everyone can stitch their way to victory.

As always, feel free to message me with any questions, comments, winning lottery numbers, or pictures of your creations.

Enjoy!

Stitch a Banksy  0

Hello stitchers! I have waited a long time to write this post, March was pretty crappy. I spent most of the month sick as a dog and then my Grandma passed away from Alzheimer’s, so I spent last week with the family and staying with my dad. We ate a lot of if cream and watched a lot of Sci-Fi.

I had plenty of time to work on my, as promised, finished project of one of today’s charts. My dad’s cat Jimmy, is pretty sneaky and decided that cross stitch floss is the ultimate toy. Lucky he plays fetch so he took it straight to my dad & I fashioned a decoy spool so I could work in peace.
Jimmy x

Today’s charts are all based on Banksy pieces. I have always been interested in his work, and other thought provoking forms of street art and stencil work.

I finished my version of what I am calling “Girl With Balloon” (I made up names for all the pieces), just in time to take some quick pictures and give it to my mom before I left to drive back to the city.
Banksy girl x

I added back stitching to all the black and on the bottom row of the grey to “ground” it a little.
Banksy girl x detail

I learned a lot making this piece since it is the largest piece I have made, the first time I have used Size 11 fabric, and the largest amount of fill color I have done. I didn’t realize how much more floss it would take, and since I was using vintage floss, I hade to use two versions of black and grey, but it worked out. I also learned that talking while stitching leads to having to pull and re-stitch a lot (there are still a few mistakes).

My phone got a workout charting all of these and I had a couple of late nights obsessively charting because it was hard editing down pieces. Most of these charts are in both cross stitch blocks and knit/crochet blocks, with a few exceptions. I even have a couple large scale or “blanket” sized charts for those of you into larger scale projects.

As always please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, favorite ice cream flavors, or pics of your finished projects (my favorite!).

I’m working on a give away for you guys soon, so keep a look out for that, and like my Hapeless Stitcher page on Facebook for post updates and fellow stitchers’ pics.

Enjoy!

Mixed bag!  2

Hello Stitchers!

I managed to get sick just as the weather decided to get warm, so I had to go two weeks without stitching or charting. It was not fun to say the least. Because of this I decided to post some random charts that haven’t fit in with others. There are a mix of cross stitch square stitches and 5×6 knit stitches.

As always feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, magic cure-all potions, or pics of your creations.

Enjoy!

Trevor and TVoovies!  2

Hello stitchers! I have a special post for you today, my friends over at Union Pool have a YouTube show called TVoovies where they mashup a different tv show with a movie every episode, like HOUSE OF CARDS Double-Crosses with Picard, that mashes up Star Trek with House of cards.image

Today the TVoovies season 3 premier comes out, and I hear there is going to be a Doctor Who, mashup this season which you know I am pretty excited about!

In Honor of their 3 season premier, I have created knitting/crochet, Perler bead, and cross stitch charts of some of their original characters from the first two seasons.

I’m going to start with Trevor, who is a series regular. He tends to turn up a lot in the background, sometimes getting kicked around a bit. He also happens to be pretty cute. I have a few version of him. The first is regular old Trevor, from the his first appearance in PARKS AND RECREATION Gets JURASSIC.

Cain, His Fantastic Beard, and Some Bonus Flash  4

Hello stitchers! As you know, I am a big Supernatural fan. Well this week Cain, and his fantastic beard got quite a blow from his blade buddy Dean. He had some amazing hair this time around to go with the beard. In honor of Cain’s fantastic follicles I have a hand full of Cain knitting block and cross stitch charts for you. I even made a First Blade border for you cross stitchers.

Another one of my Tuesday night pleasures is The Flash, so I decided to thrown in a couple knitting block charts of the Flash emblem. One is the new Flash and one the old school comic book version.

It’s been cold and snowy this past week so I’ve been giving my phone and hand quite a workout to make these, as well as rewatching a few seasons of Buffy. Although I should be taking a few days off to rest my weary hand, I have a special post comming up on March 5th that I am pretty excited about, so stay tuned.

I hope you all are staying warm and well. Please let me know, as always, if you find any bad links, have any questions or comments, want to share your macaroni and cheese recipes, or have pictures of your stitching creations. I love seeing your finished projects.

Enjoy!

A Rebuilding Month And The Little Prince  0

Hello Stitchers! January has always been a bit of a rebuilding month, recovering from the craziness of December’s holidays and the cold snowy January weather. This year has been especially so, since I had my phone stolen at the local casino. Casinos are generally unexciting, and rather depressing. It was my friend’s birthday however and I took one for the team. Within 20min, and not till I sat down did I notice, my iPhone was gone. As you know I do my charting on my phone, so this was a huge set back. Luckily a friend’s boyfriend sent me an old iPhone and the iCloud magically brought back all the charts-in-progress I thought I lost! I must say the whole situation was a trial and made me feel very lucky to have such amazing friends!

When I was a kid my mom would read to us all of the time. I come from a family of readers and teachers, so books were always a big part of my life. One of the books that we always loved was The Little Prince. I’m pretty sure we had Mom read it to us even into middle school. It wasn’t till high school when my friends read it in French class, did I realize other people read it too.

These are my The Little Prince charts that I had been working on for some time, lost on my phone, and got back. I have both cross stitch and knit blocks of the prince on his little planet. The rest are knit block charts. My favorite is the Hat/Boa eating an elephant.

What books did you like reading as a child that have stuck with you till today?

Enjoy!

Minecraft!  9

Hello stitchers! It’s been snowing and getting crazy cold outside. This has given me a great excuse to spend the last few days under the blankets, huddling with puppies, and working on today’s post.

My fantastic friend Christina, has a cute kid and they love watching Minecraft videos. I actually didn’t know about these videos till I made a Stampy Cat post that she requested. For those of you like me, who would rather build things in real life, these videos turn a complicated game based on simple concepts into hilarious entertainment.

My lovely nephew also loves playing Minecraft and asks me if I want to play every time I visit. So I did some research and created a set of Minecraft based charts that cover character “skins”, a couple monsters, and a few specific players that the kids like to watch.

Players: Hero Brian, Steve, and Enderman
Monsters: Skeleton, Zombie
Characters: Superman, Link from Zelda, a Minion, Chewbacca, The Incredible Hulk, Green Lantern

I made these charts in square blocks, so you can use them to add to a knit project (although they might be more squat), add to a crochet project, make them from fused beads, weave them out of glass beads, or even build them from Legos! I have also added cross stitch charts with DMC colors and optional line work. I even added the cross stitch “marks only” charts so you can see the line work.

So if you or a loved one are Minecraft obsessed, or you just want to make a Chewbacca scarf, I hope you find something on this post to make your day happier. Just click on the name below the image to download the PDF chart from Dropbox.

Enjoy!

Yule Trees  0

Hello stitchers! I had a whirlwind trip to go visit family for Thanksgiving, and several other family events. One of these events was our annual gingerbread house making night. This year I thought ahead, although no one remembered to get me blue candy I got there early and took all blue before anyone could stop me.
I think she turned out ok.

image

Since it is officially Christmas season, I have brought you several versions of Yule trees. I have cross stitch and knit stitch squares so all of you can get into the spirit.

Enjoy!
