Yule Trees  0

Hello stitchers! I had a whirlwind trip to go visit family for Thanksgiving, and several other family events. One of these events was our annual gingerbread house making night. This year I thought ahead, although no one remembered to get me blue candy I got there early and took all blue before anyone could stop me.
I think she turned out ok.

Since it is officially Christmas season, I have brought you several versions of Yule trees. I have cross stitch and knit stitch squares so all of you can get into the spirit.

Enjoy!

The Great Pumpkin is Comming!  3

Hello my stitchers! The leaves are turning and the sweaters are coming out, the best time of the year. It also means that Halloween is coming!

When I was a kid their were 3 things that made Halloween great; Free Candy, the fact that the house on 4th Street gave out cotton candy, and the Charlie Brown Halloween Special.

One year my dad didn’t have to work so he took me trick-or-treating. This was a big deal and I was super excited about it, but lost time and didn’t have a costume come beggars night. I’m not sure how it happened, but I ended up wearing a bunch of my dad’s clothes and my mom drew a beard on my face with an eyeliner pencil. I was so excited to be my dad and was beaming when I went up to the first few doors. Then, as my dad says, I came up to my dad and asked “Dad, what’s a hobo?”

By the time I got to high school Tim Burton was making films and my art teacher let us watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, and a new cross-holiday tradition was born. So today I have a handful of knitting pillow charts from my two Halloween traditions, past and not-as-past.

Be safe this Halloween and remember to check your candy for hidden razor blades and chain saws!

Enjoy!

Happy New Year!!/You should try turning it off & back on again  0

How is your New Year going? Did you have a great holiday, or should I say have you recovered from the holidays?

I went back to NE Ohio to see the fam. We had Christmas at Grandmas since it will probably be the last year we get too. She seemed to enjoy having everyone around, even if she couldn’t remember who they were. I even found some cookies I could eat, the best cookies too.

My mom and I also went to my brother’s to opened presents with the kids. My niece loves costumes so my thrifty brother bought all kinds of outfits & wigs when everyone had Halloween clearance sales. So smart & so cute. She is going to be a cosplay girl, I can see it. She was the one who played Halo in her flower girl dress.

Along with a blanket my Sis (in-law) made, and a bunch of yarn from my mom, I also got a lot of small things from my Grandmas house. I spent a day helping my Aunt clean and organize a bunch of my grandma’s stuff. She was a kindergarten teacher and very crafty. It was like walking through a time capsule. I tried to only take things I really wanted or could use. It was fun.

So I got back home to Columbus & it hit me. I have spent the last few days, including New Years, in bed sick. My bags aren’t even unpacked.

Once I feel a little better I’m going to restart start my New Years & start the Year off well. So I give you one of my favorite nerd boys, Moss, as our first chart for 2014.

Happy New Year!

The Dala Horse, and some local fun  1

Hello! Hope you are keeping warm (or cool in the Southern Hemisphere)! I’m rather afraid to look outside, myself. I went out to a local hand crafted store.┬áThe Weims love going over & playing with everyone’s dogs, so I kinda know a bunch of the guys.

It was a lot of fun and I ran into a random assortment of people I haven’t seen in awhile. Here are some pics

This was the first thing in the gallery I could see & probably my favorite gallery piece there. He’s cute in a creepy kind of way.

Sorry I haven’t made a post in over a week, I am always making presents full-time in December and I injured myself last week, so I’m a bit behind on my pattern making. I’m clumsy, it’s genetic.

I found this great Swedish tradition of the Dala Horse, on my holiday Internet adventures.

They are super cute (and the nerd in me loves the historical significance) so I decided to try and make some patterns. It was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. I made them as large washcloth patterns and a pillow, but they could also be used for simple cross stitch ornaments as well. Great for some hand made Christmas or Yule presents!

Enjoy!

Rudolph the Stitched Reindeer  0

Yesterday I was huddled under my electric blanket, wishing I had some hot cocoa (feel free to send me gifts of hot cocoa), and poking around on Pintrest. Yes Pintrest, that place where the obsessive creators mingle with the mearly dreaming. My friend Rain posted this one Rudolph Ornament DIY that caught my eye.

So I spent most of today tapping these patterns out as the Landman hammered things downstairs.

There is one large pillow that I think would also be great in cross stitch, two washcloths and two Perler patterns (added a cross stitch pattern). As always, feel free to change colors to your style, or in my case usually, to make the colors you already have work.

Enjoy!
